In recent times the word “organic” has been given a wide variety of meanings. We are using it here with reference to the European Commission regulations. In 2008 the EC laid down a set of rules in EC Reg No. 889/2008 to implement the EC Reg No. 834/2007. It was then up to each EC country to come up with their own regulation to comply with the standard. Here in Scotland, organic growing, ie growing to meet these standards, is not a devolved issue, ie it is still regulated on a UK-wide basis.
In the UK, therefore, as in other EC countries, there are several Organic Certifying Authorities that can certify a grower, or a product to be used on an organically certified growers land. SEER Rockdust has been approved by most of them as follows (we do recommend you take a look around their websites!):
- ORGANIC FARMERS & GROWERS – OF&G
SEER Rockdust has been certified by OF&G since 2006.
- SCOTTISH ORGANIC PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION – SOPA
SEER Rockdust has been certified by SOPA since 2007.
- SOIL ASSOCIATION
SEER Rockdust became certified at the close of 2010.
- DEMETER / BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION – BDAA
SEER Rockdust became certified at the close of 2010. An excellent article also appeared about SEER Rockdust in their Star and Furrow magazine in the Summer of 2008 Read more.
